Albany, NY -- Saying Goodbye to My House: My Bedroom Photos

Sorry, my room was a total mess while I was packing and taking these photos, as was a lot of the rest of the house. But you still get the idea -- nothing happens here :)

Albany, NY -- Music: Blackbird Cover

I'm not sure why I'm posting this, because the vocals didn't come out too well and I can't finger pick, but I recorded it while testing both the mic on my new laptop and my new Telecaster (it's sweet), so what the hell:

Albany, NY -- Why Am I Moving?

For one thing, I'm just too young and single to live in a family neighborhood. I'd like to be within walking distance of restaurants and cars, and nother people my age. It'll probably be a lot more fun to live downtown. Second, my house is just too darned big. Even though the two combined floors of my apartment are bigger than the two floors of my house, the apartment doesn't have a basement, a garage, or a backyard that I have to maintain. The basement was really the kicker... I really dislike basements, and was hoping that by redoing my basement last year, I'd no longer have to ever deal with things like bugs, moisture, and mold. However, as I've found over the last few months, it may be a nice basement, but it's still a basement. Man simply was not meant to live below ground level. What are we, men or moles?

I threw out a lot of sentimental stuff this week on garbage night, including my old rocking horse and this cute little blue car I used to drive around when I was about 3. It was a bit sad, but at least the garbage pickers in the area took a lot of it. A guy who looked a lot like Doug Stanhope (hey, maybe it was Doug Stanhope) driving an '85 Cavalier took a bunch of my old stereo equipment and my old Nintendo Power magazines for his kids. He looked hopefully at an old Super Nintendo box, but found it to be empty. I felt bad for the guy, who was just trying to get something fun for his kids. I headed down to the basement to grab another load of stuff to put in the car and came upon my old Sega Game Gear, which I planned to keep but didn't think I'd ever use again. As I carried it to load it into my trunk, something made me decide to hand it to the guy, who was still rummaging through my trash. He was extremely grateful, and I felt good. Better that someone else use my stuff than have it go to a landfill. In the same vein, a battered women's shelter in Troy will be picking up all of my extra furniture on Wednesday, the day after I move.

One important question: Am I going to regret this?

One more important question: How the hell am I going to find parking downtown?

(Sigh)... three days till moving day.

Albany, NY -- Alabama Photos

I figured I'd share with y'all the last batches of photos from my Southern swing in July. I'm not going to post North Carolina pictures, because they're not that interesting.

I move in less than a week, and I'm going to start posting some of the photos of my current house for posterity pretty soon.
