Los Angeles, CA -- What I'm Coming Home To
I'm going home tomorrow to a crime spree in Center Square, apparently:The face of downtown's latest crime spree is bruised, broken and soon to be repaired with a titanium plate.
This is the damage wrought by two thugs who assaulted and robbed Louise Finkell while she waited for a bus Monday morning across the street from the state Capitol, according to police and her family.
Finkell, 57, a state worker and city resident, was punched from behind without warning just after 10 a.m. Labor Day at Washington Avenue and Swan Street -- a corner that on most days would have been mobbed with state workers. She was headed to meet her daughter for a day of shopping at Stuyvesant Plaza.
.
.
.
The robberies have occurred generally in and around Center Square over the last two weeks, though police said the level of violence in Finkell's attack seems to have been an exception.
Just peachy...

Press release someone sent me:
FROM LARK ST. COMMUNITY WATCH,
Dear valued neighbor,
Please read, exercise caution, and be alert for any sighting of these two robbery suspects. Consider forwarding this message to other neighbors who may not be on the neighborhood e-mail lists.
If you have any information or believe you saw them, call Albany Police at 438-4000 or Doug at Lark St. Community Watch at 449-5069. You can also e-mail any information to Detective Sgt. Tony Ryan at tryan@albany-ny.org.
Police have reported to us that they are seeking two suspects in a number of recent robberies/ muggings in our neighborhood. They are actively investigating this matter and have been maintaining a heavy local presence as of late.
The two men who are believed to have perpetrated these crimes are described as African-American males between the age of 17-21 years of age.
Suspect #1 is described as being 6' tall, with hair in braids or cornrows.
Suspect #2 is described as being shorter, approximately 5'6" tall.
They have been wearing hooded sweatshirts. They have been approaching victims each time by walking toward them from behind and sometimes striking them with a weapon and have taken belongings from the victims. The incidents have happened both at night and after 10 AM.
The most recent incident happened last night (Tuesday, 9/4/07) at 10:20 PM in front of 321 Hudson Ave., between Lark and Dove Streets. The suspects
fled down Hudson past Dove toward Swan Street after being surprised in the act by a witness.
Another incident happened at 10:30 AM on Labor Day (Monday 9/3/07) near the bus shelter at the corner of So. Swan and Washington Ave. The two men fled toward Sheridan Hollow/Arbor Hill.
Although police have been working hard on this issue, they have unfortunately not communicated these recent incidents to neighbors and visitors (due to changes in job responsibilities since the restructuring of the APD began). We believe in sharing information immediately so neighbors can be aware of problems, assist police and protect themselves with vigilance. We are working hard with police to correct this for the future and involve our new beat officers in the community to enhance communication.
Police have assured us of future timely communications.
In the meantime, if you've seen anything, please share the information you may have.
Please make sure the exterior and under your stoop of your house and those of your neighbors are brightly lit for the safety of those walking around after dark!!!.
Take a moment and trim the low-hanging branches on trees in front of your home.
Try to spend a few minutes in the evening with a cool drink out on your stoop. The more people who are out at night, the safer our neighborhoods are for everyone.
Remember to always be aware of your surroundings when you are out-and-about at night. Do not walk home with your valuables after dark while listening to your I-Pod. If you or a neighbor has a surveillance camera, please contact Doug.
Sincerely,
Doug Ebersman
